This lesson explores the relationship between living organisms and their habitats. A habitat is the place where an organism lives, and each habitat has unique environmental characteristics. Organisms that live along the Nile River differ from those in the desert because of different conditions like water availability, temperature, and soil type. Adaptation is changes in body parts or behaviors that help organisms survive in their habitat. Desert plants have small leaves to reduce water loss and deep roots to reach underground water.

• A habitat is the place where an organism lives
• Adaptation is changes that help an organism survive
• The desert has little water and dry soil
• The Nile River has plenty of water and moist soil
• Desert plants have small leaves and deep roots
• Nile River plants grow in moist rich soil
• Organisms need adaptations to survive in their environment
